West Virginians are no strangers to hardship, and I truly feel that is what makes the people of our state so special and unique. We are known for opening our hearts and giving as much as we can to help others who are in need.
Author Laurence Leamer once said, "The difference between a helping hand and an outstretched palm is a twist of the wrist." This statement rings true with our state: West Virginians are givers - not takers - and that is why we make a difference.
I encourage all West Virginians to give the gift of giving everyday. Whether it's taking the time to serve hot meals in a shelter, interning at a state agency or citizens on a state board, we can work together to make West Virginia's future strong and bright for our children and grandchildren.
No matter what you choose to do, you can make a difference... and that gift is needed by so many.
With warmest regards,
Joe Manchin III
