GOVERNOR CHALLENGES JUVENILE CENTER RESIDENTS TO CHARITY BASKETBALL GAME
Contact: Sara Payne Scarbro, 304-558-2000 CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Gov. Joe Manchin today announced that he and members of his staff will challenge residents of the Kenneth Honey Rubenstein Juvenile Center in Davis, W.Va., in a basketball game on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009.
The governor promised to participate in this game while visiting the center during the grand opening celebration in September. “I’m sure these kids have experienced enough broken promises, and I wanted to be sure I followed through with this,” said Manchin. “This is an opportunity for us to encourage them, while also teach the importance of teamwork and of giving back to their communities.”
The cost of admission for each person is a toy that will be donated to the “State Troopers for West Virginia Needy” campaign, and will benefit local children in Tucker County. Cash donations will also be accepted and will go to the Parsons Community Action Center for the purchase of gifts and necessities for area families in need.
Appetizers will be offered to the public and there will be an opportunity to mingle with the governor from 5 p.m. until the game tips off at 6 p.m.
Seating is limited; therefore, those planning to attend must reserve a seat by Mon., Nov. 16, 2009. To make your reservations or obtain more information please contact Terra Hamrick at 304-259-5241.
